Endowment in San Diego

San Diego’s Colonel Frank C. Wood spent 30 years in the U.S. Army. He wanted the majority of his estate to go to charities in San Diego upon his death. This amount totaled nearly $2 million. Wood wanted most of this money to go to education, art programs, conservation, and other great social areas.

Since the date of his death in 1983 his $2 million gift has distributed more than $2.6 million in grants. New community opportunities that were not available during Wood’s life have even been addressed. This is a great example of generous person and gift that truly keeps on giving.
